Circuit Rules
Please Note: Rules and information may be subject to changes, updates and/or clarifications at any time by a consensus of race officials and or Event Promoters and any changes will be posted to the website.
1. Safety
- All racers must maintain control of their Onewheel/EUC at all times, including starting, stopping, crossing finish lines, standing still, and dismounting.
- Race directors may disqualify riders unable to maintain control.
- Helmets: Required at all times and on all trails, features, race courses and while participating in Fun Races. Helmets must comply with DOT or CSPC standards.
- Wrist guards, knee pads, and elbow pads must be worn during racing.
- Closed-toe shoes are required.
- Headphones are not allowed while racing.
- Adhere to national, local, and venue-specific safety guidelines, which may vary by event.
- Sign an event-specific liability waiver.
- No drugs or alcohol before or during practice or races.
- In case of inclement weather, race officials may cancel, reschedule, or postpone events for rider safety. No refunds will be issued for weather delays.
- Failure to follow safety rules may result in disqualification, suspension, or circuit ban.
2. Equipment
- Riders may only race one division per device. Racing both EUC and Onewheel is allowed if schedule permits.
- Race numbers must be visible on the front of the body.
- RFID timing bracelets must be returned; unreturned devices incur a $100 replacement fee.
- Any make/model of Onewheel or EUC may be used. This includes devices running VESC or other software.
- DNF (Did Not Finish) applies if a rider experiences a technical error and cannot complete the race. Switching devices mid-race is not allowed. Decisions on this and any other disqualification will be determined by the race directors.
3. Course Inspection / Practice
- Riders will be given official practice sessions prior to racing. The amount of practice time may vary by event.
- Practice sessions allow riders to familiarize themselves with the course layout, features, and conditions.
- Riders are strongly encouraged to complete multiple practice laps to ensure safety and preparedness.
- No racing blind: Riders who have not participated in practice may be denied entry to competition for safety reasons.
4. Medical / Emergency Procedures
- Medical staff have full and final authority to evaluate rider injuries and determine if a rider may continue competing.
- If a rider is deemed unfit to race (e.g., suspected concussion, loss of consciousness, severe crash, or other medical concern), they are not permitted to continue racing, even if they feel able.
- Ignoring or attempting to bypass medical direction may result in disqualification, suspension, or ban from the circuit.
- Riders are encouraged to immediately report any injuries to staff, even if they appear minor, to ensure proper evaluation.
- This rule prioritizes long-term rider health and aligns with safety standards in MTB, motocross, and other high-risk sports.
5. Rider Responsibility & Insurance
- Riders are responsible for ensuring their device is in safe operating condition before competition.
- Riders are encouraged to maintain personal medical insurance or accident coverage, as the circuit does not provide individual coverage.
6. Racing Rules
- Riders must cross the finish line on their device; crossing on foot is a DNF.
- Deviating from the course may result in disqualification unless re-entering at the same point.
- Report any race tape down caused by crashing.
- Photo finishes will be reviewed via video by officials.
- False starts: Three consecutive false starts = disqualification.
- Professional digital timing system will be used; re-runs only for timing issues or medical emergencies, otherwise approved by 3+ officials.
- EUC start: one foot on ground, one on pedal.
- Onewheel start: two feet on board.
- Races will not be delayed for late riders.
- Racers are responsible for knowing and abiding by all rules. Officials will monitor for sandbagging and ensure fair competition.
7. Rider Contact
- Maintain your own line and space; violations may be reviewed.
- Incident reviews must be reported within 30 minutes post-race.
- Aggressive contact (shouldering, ramming, grabbing, etc.) may lead to disqualification.
- Off-board riders must yield.
- Purposeful physical contact is prohibited; severe violations can result in disqualification or circuit ban.
8. Sportsmanship
- Circuit events may refuse participation to riders exhibiting bad behavior.
- No cheating, violence, poor sportsmanship, profanity, or disrespect.
- Disrespect includes yelling or being abusive toward officials, staff, volunteers, or other riders.
- No merchandise, banner or promotional displays without event organizer approval.
9. Disqualifications
- Racers are responsible for the conduct of their support crew and/or family. Serious offenses may result in disqualification.
- Decisions on disqualifications, bans, or penalties are final.
- Intoxication or substance influence results in automatic disqualification.
- Course cheating or device tampering may result in disqualification and possible circuit ban.
- Race organizers have final authority for disqualification related to safety or behavior.
10. Safety Marshals / Officials on Course
- Officials and safety marshals have authority to stop, pause, or rerun races if conditions become unsafe or if a rider is in danger.
- Marshals may use flags, radios, or other signals to communicate with riders and race officials.
- All riders must respect and immediately follow the directions of marshals.
11. Spectator / Pit Area Conduct
- Spectators, crew, and family must remain in designated areas. Crew and family are prohibited from the immediate start line area and on the race course before or during races.
- No interference with racers on course.
- Crew may not provide outside assistance unless permitted by race officials.
- Any misconduct by a rider’s crew/family may result in rider disqualification.
- Pit/staging areas must be kept orderly, safe, and free of obstruction.
12. Time Trials
- Mandatory for all riders to advance to semi-finals; late arrivals not accepted.
- Re-runs only for timing failures or medical emergencies, approved by 3+ officials.
- Time trial results determine gate choice for semi-finals.
- All races in the Best of the West Circuit will ONLY be timing Time Trials. Head to Head races will not be timed for any of the 2026 events.
13. Head-to-Head Brackets
- Top 12 riders from time trials advance.
- If there are 12 riders or fewer, all riders advance to semi-finals.
- If there are 6 riders or fewer, all riders skip semi-finals and advance directly to finals.
- On-Site qualifier race times will determine bracket placement among all those who qualified (the criteria for qualification are more complicated, see above).
- Two heats of 6 (if applicable):
- Heat 1: 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 11th
- Heat 2: 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th, 12th
- Three heats of 4 (if applicable):
- Heat 1: 1st, 4th, 7th, 10th
- Heat 2: 2nd, 5th, 8th, 11th
- Heat 3: 3rd, 6th, 9th, 12th
- If a rider withdraws or is injured, 13th place moves into 12th place.
- Bracket positions are non-negotiable.
- Gate positions determined by fastest time trial times.
14. EUC-Specific Rules
- EUC riders must follow all circuit rules.
- If >15 riders in a division, an Amateur division will be created:
- Top half of time trials → Pro
- Bottom half → Amateur
15. Onewheel Race Divisions
Rookie – New to racing with limited trail experience. Learning basic skills, gaining confidence, and adapting to varied terrain.
Amateur Men & Amateur Women– Some trail experience and at least one race or similar background. Comfortable and consistent, ready to progress beyond beginner level. If a racer’s times are consistently competitive with Expert or Pro times, they will be required to move up next season.
Legends – An amateur division for riders who are 50+ years competing among similar aged athletes. If a racer’s times are consistently competitive with Expert or Pro times, they will be required to move up next season.
Clydesdale – An amateur division for riders who are 215+ lbs competing among athletes of a similar weight. If a racer’s times are consistently competitive with Expert or Pro times, they will be required to move up next season.
Expert Men & Expert Women– Highly skilled, consistent, and confident. Possesses advanced riding ability and strong race understanding. 1st place prize purse! MUST BE 14 YEARS OLD TO RACE THIS DIVISION.
Pro Men & Pro Women– Elite, podium-driven competitor. Exceptional speed, refined skills, and ability to race at the highest level. 1st-3rd place prize purses. MUST BE 16 YEARS OLD TO RACE THIS DIVISION. Exception: Since 2026 is a transitional year, riders under 16 who got 3rd or higher in Expert at any event in 2025 may petition for approval to race in Pro. This requires parental consent, organizer approval, and safety clearance.
Kids (7 & under) – Young beginners learning skills, confidence, and racing for fun and development.
Groms (8–12) – Youth riders gaining consistency and racing experience, motivated to progress.
Teens (13–17) – Experienced youth riders ready to compete seriously, focusing on progression and performance.
16. Environmental / Venue Rules
- Riders, crew, and spectators must respect the venue, trails, and surrounding environment.
- No littering: All trash must be packed out or placed in designated bins.
- Respect trail builders & staff: No intentional damage or alteration of the course.
- Intentional trail modification, cutting, or damage may result in disqualification.
- Pit areas must be left clean before departure.
- Smoking or open flames permitted only in designated areas.
17. Prize Pools
Prize Pool for Circuit Champions will be announced in July.
Pro Men & Pro Women on EUC & Onewheel
1st $750 + trophy + ticket to the Championship event
2nd $500 + trophy + ticket to the Championship event
3rd $100 + trophy

Expert Men & Women
1st $250 + trophy + ticket to ticket to the Championship event
2nd + trophy + ticket to the Championship event

Clydesdale, Legend, Rookie, Youth & Amateur divisions will receive a trophy for 1st-3rd place.
Freestyle
1st $500 + trophy + ticket to the Championship event
2nd $200 + trophy + ticket to the Championship event
3rd $75 + trophy + ticket to the Championship event
